Thursday 22nd September
I am now standing at the edge of the Chucunaque river doing a final check of my bag before I step into the canoe that will take me into the Darien Jungle. I had a 10 km run to this point this morning, which gave me a lot of time to anticipate all possible scenarios as I traverse through the jungle with Juan my camera man and our team of heavily armed soldiers. At about the 7km mark on this rubble filled track to the river I fell over, again. Just a few cuts and bruises but it was a big reality check for me. I have to be so careful that I don't injure myself to the point where it stops me from running, so I can't allow my mind to wander from the task at hand because a lapse of concentration is all it takes to bring this thing undone.
Brooke, Dillon and Rachael gather round after I clean the gravel from my cuts for one last hug goodbye before I set off on this next big challenge. I can't wait to come out the other side next week and tell them all about my experience in the jungle.
